2008-W Silver Eagle Reverse of 2007 Variety

 

This is one of the most significant coins in the American Silver Eagle series. 1986-2023.

 

It is the only major die variety coin in the Series, (1986-2023). A Die Variety coin is defined as a die or die pairing that offers some distinctive feature not a normal part of the design.

 

In 2008 the U.S. Mint slightly modified the design of the American Silver Eagle to produce a higher quality coin. In error, a small group of the Burnished coins were released to the public. These coins had the new 2008 obverse design and the old 2007 reverse design. The main differences are the “U” in “United States” will be bowl shaped and the dash between the words “Silver” and “One” will be shaped like a tilde. On the reverse of 2008, the “U” will have a spur on the right side of the letter and the dash will be angled.
